It was a long day but definitely worth it. Beyond equality, Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in public service and service to one another. “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve,” Dr. King said. "You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."

The Southern Arizona community came together, like they have for the past 19 years, to make the 20th edition of the MLK Basketball Classic a success. Organizations such as Coaches for Charity, which the AIA is a member of, and others in the Tucson area, spent months planning and then bringing a day-long exhibition of games featuring our high school youth competing in one of the most important Division I arenas in the country – McKale Memorial Center - on the University of Arizona campus and the reward was the labor of love itself.

The games played at the MLK Classic are real games with power-points attached. Schools willingly moved a regular season game to MLK Day to take part. This year, 16 teams took part, giving the players and fans a once in a lifetime experience of playing on the Lute and Bobbi Olson Court and it was an experience most will treasure.
