Pueblo sophomore America Cazares scored 59 points in a 101-16 victory over Palo Verde on Dec. 13. The mark set a school record over former Warrior Alicia Reyes, who scored 57 points against Cholla in 2016. Reyes hit an Arizona record 17 3-pointers in that game and she made 11 against Douglas that season to finish her career with two of the top five 3-point performances in the history of Arizona girls basketball.

Cazares made 10 3-pointers against Palo Verde, which puts her tied for ninth place in that category. Her 59 points is the second most ever in Arizona on the girl’s side with Diane Beecroft of 2A Antelope scoring 65 in the 1977-78 season. The 59 points set a new “big school” record for Arizona.
