The McClintock Chargers hosted the Dobson Mustangs Friday night and were able to send their departing players off with a 44-20 win on senior night.

Their first drive of the game was a series of screens and quick throws, which brought them to the red zone. But due to a bad snap, the offense was unable to capitalize and settled for a 35-yard field goal.

McClintock quarterback Jaxon Knutson after the game said that the quick throws “did exactly what it’s supposed to do. I mean, the rhythm is what I strive off of and those screens and those easy hitches, you really do get in rhythm and that opens up the deep ball, and defenses start playing a little different.”

Dobson responded with a solid drive, getting it into McClintock territory, but back-to-back sacks pushed the Mustangs back and they were forced to punt.

And after McClintock's opening drive of quick hitters, all it took was a couple of plays for the second drive to turn into a massive success.

A 70-yard touchdown throw from Knutson to Amari Scroggins put the Chargers up two possessions, but a blocked extra point kept it to a 9-0 lead.

“We caught them,” Chargers head coach Micah Fell said. “We went to NASCAR, which is quick, and we caught them before they got set. We usually get one of those a game, we can go quick and get it out there.”

After another Mustangs punt, the Chargers drove right down the field, dinking and dunking their way into the end zone. Senior Peter Schoppe caught the touchdown and put the Chargers up 16-0.

The Chargers defense then forced a three-and-out, and Dobson's punting unit botched the snap, turning into a McClintock special teams touchdown after the loose ball was recovered in the end zone by Jeremiah Peat.

It gave the Chargers a 23-0 lead before Dobson could get a complete drive.

The Mustangs would answer back with some nice throws from the lefty-gunslinger Tomas Montemayor. A 15-yard roughing-the-passer penalty helped the Mustangs put together their best drive yet, and it concluded with a 10-yard touchdown pass.

Just two plays into the Chargers’ next drive, Dobson recovered a fumble, and on its first play, a 20-yard touchdown throw to Tremaine Turner and two-point conversion cut the McClintock lead to nine.

After trading punts, McClintock was able to milk some clock and put a drive together right before halftime to build on its lead.

With 17 seconds remaining in the half, Knutson was able to connect with Scroggins for a 10-yard touchdown for a 30-14 McClintock lead.

To open the second half, the Chargers defense got another stop and forced a punt, which was returned to the McClintock 45-yard line by Scroggins, and the short field position was quickly capitalized on.

Receiver Kemon Jackson found the end zone for the first time in the game for a 37-14 advantage.

A short field from Dobson's return set the Mustangs up at their 45, and running back Allen Wallace scored his first touchdown of the game. A failed two-point conversion kept McClintock's lead at three scores, 37-20.

The final blow came from a 38-yard touchdown from Knutson to Schoppe, and it was garbage time from there on out.
