Saint Mary’s is looking to build momentum coming into this week.

The Knights travel to Lake Havasu on Friday in a 4A West Valley egional game that will kickoff at 7 p.m.

Saint Mary’s (3-3) looks to grab a second straight win and gain more momentum as Lake Havasu (1-5) looks to end their four-game losing streak and get back into the win column.

The conference’s 19th-ranked Saint Mary’s is coming off a 14-7 victory against Moon Valley and looks to pick up where they left off.

The 33rd-ranked Lake Havasu faces adversity after dropping their fourth straight game to Northwest Christian, 49-7.

Saint Mary's and Lake Havasu are seeking their first regional win.

Saint Mary’s senior offensive and defensive lineman Ben Cosner always makes sure to keep the same intensity in practice when preparing for a game.

“Mentally, Friday night always starts on Monday,” said Cosner. “It always translates so you have to start strong and start fast, play like it is Friday.”

On the other hand, Lake Havasu is looking for their first victory since Sept. 1 when they defeated Carl Hayden, 34-6.

Preparation for game day doesn’t isn’t always on the field. Senior outside linebacker Joey Herrington knows preparing for Friday night also means preparing off the field as well.

“You really want to be mentally prepared before the game, so you want to be ready,” said Herrington. “You want to study your playbook and then just be locked in the day before the game. ...

"Try not to be too distracted and just focus on your goal and what your job is.”

Saint Mary’s head coach Jose Lucero knows what approach to take when it comes to Friday night, no matter the opponent’s record.

Despite Lake Havasu’s record, Lucero still doesn’t want his team to take them lightly.

“They’ve definitely taken some losses but they’ve played some really good teams," Lucero said. They’re losing but they’re losing to good teams and we have to take that into consideration. For us we want to prepare every game the best we can, it doesn't matter who we’re playing. ...

"We have a ton to work on here."
