The Millennium Tigers topped the Canyon View Jaguars with a 49-35 win at Jaguar Stadium. Senior quarterback Beau Devens threw four touchdown passes and the Jags rallied late, but they were unable to crawl back after falling behind in the second half.

“There’s a lot of things we need to improve on,” coach Nick Gehrts said. “Number one, we can’t turn the ball over, we gotta get the defense off the field, we had too many turnovers.”

Millennium struck first, but Canyon View answered to even the score halfway through the first quarter. With around a minute left of the first quarter the Jaguars added pressure, but Devens pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown to put the Tigers up 21-7.

The Jags struggled completing passes in the second quarter and Millennium started to pull away, but Canyon View forced a turnover and clawed their way back into the game and the Tigers came into halftime with a 28-21 lead.

Canyon View opened with the ball to start the third quarter, but they turned the ball over on their opening drive and Millennium turned that into a touchdown to go up 34-21.

The Jags rallied late, but came up short to their crosstown rival. Canyon View will take on Desert Edge in their next game in another region matchup.

“We just need to keep practicing hard, play stronger, better, more talented football,” senior lineman Trey Bohm said. “We can always play better. I believe we can do it and win some games.”
