Marana over Mountain View Marana 22-0

Marana improved to 8-0 on the year after the Tigers beat district rival Mountain View 22-0 on the road Monday night. Marana came in ranked No. 2 in the 6A Conference and Mountain View is No. 8 in the 5A Conference. The Mountain Lions fell to 5-2 on the year.

Marana has outscored opponents 143 to 25 so far and the team will travel to No. 15 Dobson (5-3) Tuesday night. The Mountain Lions started their inaugural season strong with five straight victories but the team lost to No. 10 Casa Grande 20-0 on Thursday before the setback to Marana Monday night. Mountain View will travel to No. 27 Vista Grande (1-8) on Tuesday. The updated rankings will be released on Tuesday morning.

The Southern Arizona Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFFSAC) was on hand, along with representatives of the Arizona Bowl, to help celebrate the first flag football between the only participants from Southern Arizona.

Marana sophomore Malaysia Roebuck was named Player of the Game for Marana from the NFFSAC and Mountain View junior Holly McLemore earned Player of the Game recognition for your squad. Roebuck finished with 71 yards receiving, including a dramatic 52-yard touchdown grab to put Marana up 19-0 with 7:49 left in the third quarter. McLemore had a touchdown saving stop and an interception for Mountain View.

Marana So. QB Roxi Singer finished the game with 173 yards passing with two TDs but she ran the first score in from up close to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead with 4:39 left in the first. Singer hit Madison Myers-Rebidas from seven yards out to out the Tigers up 12-0 with 42.1 seconds left in the half. Mikayla Gleason came up with an interception for Mountain View to end the first half.

Marana came out of the half with Singer hitting Roebuck for the long TD to put Marana up 18-0 and Thais Monson kicked the extra point for the 19-0 lead. McLemore and Madison Myers-Rebidas traded interceptions which led to a 28-yard field goal from Monson for the 22-0 final. Adrian Griffin and Kameran Coto also had interceptions for Marana. Myers-Rebidas finished with 74 yards receiving on five catches and Lillian Gradillas had 40 yards passing for Mountain View.
