Shadow Mountain (2-4) and Coronado (0-6) got off to a fast start, then the game got lopsided at the same pace.

The Dons had no response for the Matadors, 60-0.

The Matadors' wideout and cornerback Mateo Hernandez picked off Coronado’s Nicholas Vanalstine, and took advantage during its ensuing possession as Shawn Collins rushed into the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown.

Coronado blocked the extra point to keep it a 6-0 game early.

The offense struggles would continue for the Dons as they would give Shadow Mountain a goal line opportunity after a long punt return all the way to the two-yard line.

Shadow Mountain running back Tavares Allen punched it into the end zone to make it a 12-0 after another failed PAT.

Shadow Mountain head coach Ron Fagan said pregame he wanted to “focus on the running game”, which is exactly what happened through the first two drives.

The Matadors offense would get no time to rest as they forced a fumble on the kickoff.

After a false start penalty, Shadow Mountain’s Joey Meyn would connect on a huge 46-yard touchdown and Hernandez making it 18-0 after their third failed extra point in the contest.

Coronado would stall once again, giving it right back to Shadow Mountain.

Allen would break loose and rip off a 63-yard run all the way down to the Dons' eight-yard line.

Shadow Mountain RB Ethan Damewood would cap off the drive with an eight-yard touchdown run adding to the Matadors' lead.

To end the first quarter, Coronado would go for it in their own territory on 4th and 10, and would convert after an 11 yard connection from Vanalstine to tight end Dylan Cruz.

However, the drive would stall after Shadow Mountain picked off Vanalstine for the second time and returned it for a TD to make it 32-0.

Cruz would give the Dons nice field positioning after a nice kickoff return to the Coronado 44.

Nothing would come after the kick return as Shadow Mountain took over possession.

After a nice run by Allen, Meyn would connect to Tyler Cole for a five-yard receiving TD giving the Matador’s a 39-0 halftime lead.

Meyn was impressed with his teams performance in the first half as he said “it is easy to look past this week” and “we have to stay humble and get the job done”

Shadow Mountain would start the second half with a long 60-yard touchdown to make the score 46-0 seconds into the second half.

Coronado couldn't find momentum entering the second half.

Coronado head coach Rick Benjamin said after the game that “we are improving every week and we just have to keep working and building these guys up” as the Dons are one of the youngest teams in the state.

Coronado returns to the road next Friday to face Madison Highland Prep.
