Hey, did you see that NFL video on Sunday?

The one where Washington Redskins long snapper Nick Sundberg got knocked on his tail?

When all was said and done, it didn’t really matter where he ended up because he got the ball where it was supposed to go, and Graham Gano booted a 33-yard field goal to lift the Redskins to a 16-13 victory over the Green Bay Packers in overtime.

It is not nearly as easy as you might think to be a long snapper. In an instant, you have to flick the ball back to the punter or the holder on place-kicks. And there is the opponent who is literally breathing down your neck, ready to knock you into next week.

Sundberg continues to refine his craft after beginning as a player at Phoenix North Canyon High and later moving on to the University of California-Berkeley.

It also proves that if you work hard enough and are in the right place at the right time, you can accomplish just about anything.  The 6-foot, 245-pound Sundberg found his niche.

There are quite a few players from Arizona high schools on NFL and college rosters. Ever hear of a guy named Max Hall, the Cardinals’ quarterback from Mesa Mountain View? Or how about Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara, a brilliant two-way player from Glendale Apollo? He just might be a first-round draft choice next April.

And you can watch Sundberg continue to follow his dream this Sunday (Oct. 17) when the Redskins play host to the Indianapolis Colts on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Arizona can be proud of these players, the ones who went before them and those who will come after. It never hurts for high school players to dream.
