Brophy's Allen, CDO's Septer set state records at Rotary

Chandler High swept the boys and girls team titles at the 72nd Chandler Rotary Track and Field Invitational on Saturday night, but Brophy hurdler Devon Allen and Canyon del Oro hurdler Jaide Stepter made the grandest impressions with marks in the Arizona record book.
Allen, a junior, won the 110-meter high hurdles in a state record time of 13.62 seconds and also won the 300 intermediate hurdles in 37.04. Septer, a senior, covered the 300 low hurdles in a state record 42.18.
Other highlights from Saturday's Rotary:
Cibola's Bernie Montoya, a two-time defending state cross country champ, captured the 1,600-meters with a time of 4:08.82. Montoya finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.19. Montoya lost by .09 of a second to El Paso Montwood High's Luis Romero.
Chinle's Rolonda Jumbo won the 1,600 and 3,200, besting Xavier's Sarah Fakler in both races. Jumbo is a four-time state cross country champ.
Another two-event winners was Deer Valley sprinter Trae Armstrong, who continued to dominate his events. Armstrong won the 100 meters and 200 meters.
The best night for a Chandler HIgh athlete belonged to Jasmine Todd, who won the long jump (20 feet, 1 1/2 inch) and the triple jump (39-1 3/4). Todd also finished second in the 100 meters to sophomore teammate Ky Westbrook.
Other girls event winners from Arizona were: Desert Vista freshman Danielle Jones (800); Corona del Sol's Dana McKenzie (high jump); Hamilton's Hunter Wilkes (pole vault); and Deer Valley's Amanda Conlin (shot put). Other boys event winners from Arizona were: Chandler's Javon Williams (400 meters), Travis Colby ( discus) and Shawn Collins (shot put); Sandra Day O'Connor's Andrew McDonald (high jump) and Hayden McClain (triple jump); Basha's Garrett Starkey (pole vault) and Mountain Pointe's Travonn White (long jump).
