The Arizona College Prep Knights snapped the Seton Catholic Sentinels' two-game winning streak Friday night, winning 42-0 in a matchup between two 4A Desert Sky teams.

The Knights maintained control of the game from start to finish. Their stout rushing attack, combined with a dominant display from the defense were the two central keys of the win.

Ravi Bushanam led the Knights’ rushing attack, rushing for two touchdowns – one coming with just over six minutes to play in the first half to make the score 14-0 and another coming in the third quarter to increase the Knights’ lead to 28.

“I put a lot of leadership into the (offensive) line and knowing that our linemen are super young this year, I feel like just me talking to them and getting them hyped up along with some of the leaders on the line, kind of helps them step up,” Bushanam said.

Knights head coach Myron Blueford said the team focused on the run game in practices this week.

"In practice it has been our main objective to get that going," Blueford said. "We’re really good in the pass and we want to make sure we’re balanced, so we really worked on that a lot this week.”

Quarterback Jaxon Castro also threw for two touchdowns, both going to receiver Lincoln Chapman. One to put the Knights up 21 and another to increase the lead to 35.

The Knights’ defense also proved too much for the Sentinels to overcome, totaling multiple sacks and tackles for loss on the night.

“Their defensive front beat us up, our offensive line was pushed around most of the night," Sentinels head coach Pete Wahlheim said. "We’re built to run the ball and when we can’t run the ball, it just hamstrings us a little bit. But their defensive front is pretty darn good.”

The Sentinels struggled to get anything going offensively, resulting in the Knights’ dominance of time of possession and momentum, something that Wahlheim point outed.

“The problem was we just went three and out, three and out, three and out and just gave them too many possessions," Wahlheim said. "But they’re a good football team. I’ll give them credit … we just have to learn how to keep possession of the ball and get some first downs and let our defense rest. Our defense was on the field the whole night.”

However, Wahlheim said he believes there are positives that can be taken from this loss.

“We’re playing a bunch of young guys, playing freshmen and sophomores," Wahlheim said. "I thought they played hard tonight … but we’ll get there and these young kids will benefit from it down the road.”

The win Friday night marks the Knights fifth straight win, improving their overall record to 5-1. The Sentinels' overall record dropped to 2-4.

The Sentinels will square off against Arcadia in another 4A matchup on the road Friday, October 21, while the Knights will go on the road to take on Gilbert North.
