Williams Field loses OT thriller against Desert Ridge, 34-33

GILBERT -- Williams Field High School lost a thriller to previously winless Desert Ridge in overtime, 34-33, Thursday night at home. 

The Jaguars (1-3) answered Wlliams Field standout junior running back Dylan Lee's touchdown in overtime and made their PAT to win the game.

"Just mentally we weren’t there and just lining up incorrectly and not playing physical enough and we just weren’t there today," Williams Field senior cornerback Josiah Dye said.

Williams Field (2-2) tied the game at 27-27 on a field goal at the end of regulation after recovering a fumble, but were unable to come out with the victory at home.

"We just didn’t execute,” Lee said.

Lee's first touchdown gave the Black Hawks a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. The Jaguars answered with a score in the second quarter, but Isaac Anderson blocked the extra point to keep the score even.

William Field took a 9-6 lead into halftime on 40-yard field goal. .

The Black Hawks committed two pass interference penalties before surrendering a touchdown to fall behind, 13-9. Lee answered with a second touchdown and added a two-point converstion to put Williams Field back on top, 15-13. 

The two teams continued to trade touchdowns.

After Desert Ridges scored to regain the lead, Lee reached the endzone again, making the score, 24-20 in favor of Williams Field going into the fourth quarter. 

The Jaguars once again responded in taking a 27-24 lead, but turned the ball over with 3:30 left in regulation. The Black Hawks ended up tying the game on a field goal, but couldn't pull out the victory in overtime.

“We have to focus on the little details, the little things," Williams Field senior receiver Austin Vincent said. "We missed a couple and some big plays were missed because of that. And we have to stick together.”
