After Coronado's last two scoreless games, it was the same struggle for the Dons (0-4) to get on the board at home against Miami (3-2) on Friday.

Coronado allowed 42 points from the Vandals, and the Dons have been outscored by a staggering 147 points their past three games.

Miami's twin brothers and seniors Angel and Jaime Peña led its rushing attack.

Angel had the game's first touchdown in the opening quarter and racked up over 50 rushing yards, and added two interceptions as a pass rusher. Jaime carried for over 75 yards and got a sack while playing cornerback in the winning effort. 

Miami sophomore quarterback Abram Castaneda rushed in its second TD to extend the lead to 12-0 in the first period. He added a 38-yard passing touchdown in the third to freshman wide receiver Noah Combs, who made an incredible play jumping over a defender to get in for the score.

Miami's other running backs including seniors Jaycob Goss and Larenz Combs contributed two rushing TDs, and sophomore Aiden Goss ran in final touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter to cap the Vandals' dominant performance. 

Coronado senior QB Adrian Sonoqui couldn’t get in a rhythm all game. He finished with two interceptions, one fumble and completed just four passes. 

One of the few bright spots for the Dons was the emergence of junior running back Gabriel Gregg. He broke out a couple runs for over 20 yards and carried much of the the Dons' offensive load. Gregg is a linebacker who filled in at running back because the team's three players who were originally listed at that position were benched from injuries. 

“He’s a kid who’s a fast runner, we just got to teach him how to play football,” Coronado head coach Rick Benjamin said about Gregg after the game. 

Gregg said he was happy with his performance, but claimed his teammates “had some bad conflicts,” which was why they lost.

“It gives us another reason to work harder,” Gregg said.

One of Coronado's three injured backs was senior utility man Truitt Crowley. His high ankle sprain early in the first half became a tough loss for the team the rest of the game.

“All we can do is keep moving forward, hit the field and gym hard and not look back,” Truitt said. “I feel like if we just keep a strong mentality and keep working, that’s all we can do to get ready for next week.”

Truitt believes he should return next week. 

Benjamin spoke on the team's lack of discipline and wants to see improvement as the season progresses.  

“We just had a lot of penalties. Everytime we got something going, we had a call on us," Benjamin said. “We’re trying to make good citizens out of these men, so we focus on perfecting their own individual play, and that’s all you can really do.”

The Dons play their first road game at San Tan Charter (4-1) in Gilbert next Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
