On Monday, April 25th, the Chandler Prep Titans, lead by senior pitcher Isa Guadian, shut out the Stallions from Sequoia Charter in four and a half innings, 11-0. Senior Night celebrations were held after the game and the stands were packed with students, teachers, friends, and family there to cheer on the Titans to their last home field win of the season.
The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by injured senior Lois Brodnik from her knee scooter before handing the ball over to her long-time friend and teammate. Guadian threw 10 strikeouts, adding to her season total of over 90.
Compared to some of the other teams in mercy-ruled games against the Titans, the Stallions had a solid defense. There were only a few fielding errors and junior pitcher Makayla Moses threw six strikeouts facing Titan batters. Chandler Prep still did get through the majority of their line-up in innings one, three, and four, and senior Emily Curran reached first at every at bat.
Titan freshman, Kyra Tucker, currently in the top ten statewide for on-base percentage, led the team in hits on Monday and stole second twice.
After the game and the senior honorings, Assistant Coach Delsante commented on a couple of the night’s highlights:
“It was really great to see all the seniors get out there and really give it their all, especially in those first couple innings. Rita Maza was awesome with that hit she got. That really stood out to me, but just seeing all the girls interact with each other was so great. They love each other so much and it’s evident on and off the field.”
Senior Rita Maza easily held her own next to the regular starters, collecting a hit and a run, and the whole team rallied around the seniors on this night of celebration.
The Chandler Prep Titans currently sit tenth in conference rankings and will certainly be contenders in the 2A softball championship bracket. Titan Up.
