Owen Gehr is a sophomore starting outside hitter on the Gilbert Christian Varsity Men’s Volleyball Team. Gehr has been playing volleyball for six years, and has gained lots of insight about the sport throughout his career. Owen is a player who focuses on shaking off mistakes and encourages his teammates to become the best they can be, which is what he believes makes a great player. His teammate, sophomore libero, Riley LeTulle, says that “Owen is a kind player who is a crucial part of the team and he always shows a mature sportsmanship.” 

Owen shows great dedication to his team by being a dependable teammate and by always pushing the team to finish every game strong. This year's men’s volleyball team consists of only three returning players, Gehr being one, due to the majority of the team graduating the previous year. Owen says that this young team consists of  “mostly non-volleyball athletes who want to branch out their athletic skill set;” however, Owen and all of his teammates are eager to play and are always determined to perform to the best of their abilities. This season Owen’s team quickly bonded, and the chemistry of the team helps them play together seamlessly. 

Gehr is a very versatile player, having previously played as a middle and an opposite hitter, but this season he is thriving as an outside hitter.  Here are some of his stats from the season.

• GCHS vs ALA Ironwood: 3 Kills, 7 Digs

• GCHS vs San Tan Charter: 6 Kills, 15 Digs, 1 Block

• GCHS vs Ben Franklin : 9 Kills, 2 Aces, 7 Digs

• GCHS vs Leading Edge Academy: 11 Kills, 4 Aces, 3 Digs

The GCHS Men’s Volleyball Team will face off against Arizona College Prep next Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 5:30PM at home, Go Knights!
