Williams Field High School continues to use a district bond program to expand and renovate its campus.
The new 14,524 square feet field house was funded by a bond program worth $70 million that was passed by voters back in 2013. This bond also funded the new turf football field that was installed at Williams Field in 2014 and also funded new classrooms added in 2017.
“This project is very important for our school and specifically our outdoor sports teams,” Williams Field athletic director Darrel Stangle said in a press release last month. “The new field house will provide students and coaches with modern locker rooms and meeting rooms, as well as easier access to restrooms and the training room.”
With the new field house being added along with the new turf field installed seven years ago, it has made the football games a greater experience for the community.
During the Friday night football games, the fans are lined up outside the locker room to cheer the team on as they walk to the field. Another component of the new field house is a brand new concession stand for the fans.
The varsity football team has been the first team to use the new locker room and have put it to good use.
“I love how the locker room is very spacious,” Williams Field quarterback CJ Tiller said. “It gives us the closest thing to the college experience and with the training facilities, we have things other schools don't, it has definitely helped our team.”
The field house is not only being used by the football team — it will also be used by the soccer and baseball teams.
Even though they are one of the smaller schools in the East valley with just under 2,000 students enrolled, having the best facilities for their students and athletes is very important for Williams Field High School.
“I think this could help Williams Field a lot in the future. Students who are still deciding which high school they want to go to can look at this as a factor as a reason why they choose Williams field. They see the culture that has been set up there through this field house and say they want to be a part of it.”
