South Mountain shut out at Notre Dame Prep, 42-0

SCOTTSDALE -- After a rough loss last week to Sunnyslope, South Mountain headed to Notre Dame Prep to take on the Saints Friday night. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, the trek to Scottsdale was fruitless as they were blanked 42-0.
Notre Dame's fast-paced and versatile offense looked unstoppable, and its defense was locked in from the start, forcing seven three-and-outs throughout the course of the game.
Even though the Jaguars suffered a rough loss, coach Byron Evans maintained a positive outlook for the rest of the season, and expected improvements to start as soon as the team bus returned to South Mountain's campus. "This is going to be the turning point of our season," said coach Evans. "Tonight, we just got our butt's kicked."
Evans and his staff know a lot can be improved after a defeat. "We need to improve on everything: passing, rushing, defense, tackling, blocking, kicking, and even coaching," said coach Evans in the postgame huddle. "You can't win every night, that's football, don't go home and point fingers."
Coach Evans scheduled a practice for Saturday morning, just 12 hours after the game's conclusion.
The Jaguars simply couldn't get the ball moving against the host Saints. Blockers missed assignments left and right and the Notre Dame pass rush was too much to handle. Quarterback Jaylen Huckaby was unable to follow up o the brilliant performance he had versus Sunnyslope, and only had a couple of big moments in the second half. The effort was too late, though, as the Jaguars already trailed 35-0 at the half.

The loss at Notre Dame Prep makes it back-to-back defeats for South Mountain after a 2-1 start with that first loss coming in overtime. South Mountain is ready to fix their mistakes, and already have a practice scheduled for 12 hours after the game's conclusion.
The Jaguars will be at home in south Phoenix next Friday to host Desert Mountain in their homecoming game. A bounce-back performance could return the Jaguars to the .500 mark.
