Christopher Owen attends Canyon View High School and is a member of the AIA's Student SID program. 

The Canyon View varsity football team fell to Desert Edge in their first home game of the season. The game was marred by a number of stoppages and took over three hours to complete, but the Scorpions came away with a 34-6 win.

“We came out and did what we had to do. Tthey thought they were going to come and run us, but we came and brought the boom," linebacker Daniel Cordova said.

After a slow start, kicker Richard Casten started the Jaguar scoring with a field goal early in the second quarter. Desert Edge would answer with a long touchdown pass by Adryan Lara to make it 6-3 Scorpions. Canyon View would later tie the score on Casten's second field goal of the game with just over two minutes remaining in the half. 

Lara then marched Desert Edge down the field for another touchdown to make it 14-6 Scorpions at halftime.

The second half featured three long delays. In the third quarter, Canyon View’s sprinkler system kicked on putting a hold on the game. The stadium lights also went out in the fourth quarter to put yet another stop to the game. This followed a possible neck or head injury to senior Jesse Ortiz who was taken off the field by paramedics. 

“Jesse is all fine, we will follow up with him tomorrow but it was all precautionary," coach Nick Gehrts said.

Gehrts and the Jaguars will look to get back in the win column next week as they travel to West Point.
