The Gilbert Christian Knights have had an amazing season so far. They are currently ranked number five in their division and are 11-2 on the season. They have had some great games and have exceeded all expectations for the 2021 year. Following up on the short year they had last year due to COVID-19 and the cancellation of all spring sports the team was definitely ready to compete, especially Senior Katie Gross.
Katie said her main goal of the season was to win more than lose and so far she and her partner have done that and more. Katie has been doing phenomenal all season and is definitely showing out for her senior year. She would have to agree as well. When asked how she thought the season had gone for her and her team she responded with, “Great!”. She is pleased with the year she and the team had and is looking forward to the playoffs. The confidence Katie has is impeccable, and she has high standards for herself going forward.
Katie’s favorite moment of the season so far has been her senior night. It was a good team win and a very exciting moment for her. She showcased her volleyball talents and you could just tell everyone was in awe. The poise and calmness she played with really made a difference and her athleticism was off the charts.
Bill Tennison is the head coach of the GCHS sand volleyball team and when asked what she thought of the stellar man that he is Katie said, “I love him and all of the other coaches.” Mr. Tennison has clearly made an impact on her and not just with her volleyball skills but also spiritually. She absolutely loves him and thinks very highly of him! Where would Gross be today without Tennison? I couldn’t even tell you.
Along with the bond she formed with the coaches you can’t forget about her teammates. She said she loves all of her teammates and has created many great memories and friendships with them. Katie has obviously been a star athlete this year and I’m looking forward to seeing her win state.
