The Chandler Prep Titans played their next to last home game against the Trivium Prep Knights on Saturday April 24th, won 9-4, and celebrated their three seniors after the game. Making one of the most notable senior plays, second baseman Lauren Kemper snatched a hard line drive in the top of the fifth getting the final out of the inning and leaving a Trivium baserunner on third.
The game was tied for the first two innings of play until a big four run inning by the Titans, going all the way through their line-up to take the lead in the bottom of the third. The Knights tried to make a comeback with a two-run, two-hit inning in the sixth, but Chandler Prep responded with three runs to lengthen their lead going into the final half inning.
Junior catcher Emily Curran was the strongest hitter for the Titans on Saturday with a single, two doubles, and a long fly ball to left for two RBIs on her fourth plate appearance. Junior shortstop Lois Brodnik and freshman third baseman Leighan Petri led the team in RBIs and both benefited from their smart baserunning. Coach Mark Brodnik for Chandler Prep commented on this:
"We tend to be aggressive on the base paths and teach situations, such as when the ball gets by the catcher or a ball thrown to home from the outfield. However, the trigger to run in a game situation is really on the player. Examples of both of these situations was freshman Leighan Petri, who advanced to second after a single when the ball was thrown home from the outfield and later advanced to second on a passed ball. Leighan is a very heads-up base runner with great speed and it was on display Saturday night."
While the Titan defense was not overpowering as in some past games, the fielding and pitching were effective, mostly devoid of errors, and forced three scoreless innings for Trivium. There also was never an inning where there was not a Trivium baserunner left on. The Knights fought hard at the plate with a countless number of balls fouled off, but junior pitcher, Isabella Guadian, who has been a constant for Chandler Prep all season, performed well again tonight with seven strikeouts, including the final out of the game.
The Titans play their final game of the season on April 30th against the Horizon Honors Eagles at Valley Christian High School at 5:00pm. Titan Up.
