The Veritas Prep Falcons continued to experience offensive woes as they lost to Anthem Prep, 57-23, on Saturday.

The Falcons (2-6) had scored a combined 64 points in their last two games but the Anthem Prep Eagles (7-2) have scored 102 points in their last two games and were prepared to dominate the ball this game with an aggressive offense.

When the two teams met three weeks ago, the Eagles won 65-9.

Veritas hesitated to dribble the ball and play defense in the first half of the game but showed a more confident team in the third and fourth quarter, which also exhibited a good amount of support from the audience, including the boys basketball team.

“This fourth quarter showed that that group knew what they were doing, they knew how to play,” Veritas coach Madolyn Chamerski said. “They started working like a team.”

Chamerski said her team is very young with  six freshmen on the roster.

Although there has been improvement in points scored in their last two games, Veritas still has a lot of room for improvement, according to their key players.

“We need to practice dribbling and driving to the hoop. We’re more of an outside-shooting group,” senior Bernadette Burch said.

Burch stood out as an outside shooter, scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter and finishing with 16.

“I think we are way more aggressive than we think we are,” Burch said.

Freshman Jaz Cobb also stood out during Saturday’s game, showing an aggressive style of play and scoring multiple points.

Cobb said the team should work on positivity and their passing for the remaining nine games of the season.

The Falcons will host Santa Cruz Valley (1-4) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Anthem Prep will play at Arizona Lutheran Academy (9-0) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
