Textbook volleyball with a brief hiccup or two from Desert Vista met up with a lethargic start from Chandler on Wednesday night. As one would expect, the outcome wasn't pretty for the host Wolves.

Desert Vista won with ease in a match that might have lasted a full hour with a sweep. Scores were 25-12, 26-24 and 25-19. Desert Vista improved to 5-1 for the season with its lone loss to 5-1 Highland, who has lost only to Perry.

"We were steady tonight," Desert Vista's longtime and only girls VB coach  Molly West said. "What I was happiest about was how we came back in the second set. We didn't get flustered. We didn't fall back. That was nice to see. Our confidence is coming."

Desert Vista's roster of 12 features no seniors with a a group of eight seeing the playing time -- comprised for four juniors and four sophomores. Junior outside hitter Kylie Moran and junior middle Logan Blutreich put up solid stats in a couple categories. Moran led in kills with 13 and digs with 11. Blutreich was second in kills (nine) and  second in blocks with four. The opening set saw Desert Vista rack up four aces, seven kills and one service error. The Thunder had three service errors for the match.

Chandler tried torebound in the second set jumping to a 6-1 advantage and notching its biggest lead later at 18-12. Desert Vista caught Chandler at 21 and didn't allow the Wolves a chance at set point. The Thunder finished the set on its second set-point attempt - the second of two kills late by sophomore right side Amiyah White. White finished with 6 kills.

Chandler (3-4) hung tough for most of a very tight third set. The Wolves were down 18-16, but a service error, attack error and block by Desert Vista setter Gabbi LeBlanc bumped the margin to five and essentially closed out the Wolves.

"We looked very unprepared," Chandler coach Bobby Robson said. "I feel like I have to take the blame for that. I felt like we were getting it going up fairly big late in the second set. We just didn't have the right combinations tonight. Not much was in synch."

Desert Vista employs two setters (both sophomores) and they were equally adept in the match. LeBlanc contributed 15 assists and Georgia Lee finished with 13 assists. Junior middle Lily Woods led the Thunder in blocks with five. Chandler's attack was paced unofficially by senior hitters Kaylie Ray (13 kills) and Reece Denney (6).
