Do not count out Brophy despite recent skid

All is not lost for Brophy's football team this season. Despite its current three-game losing streak, the Broncos had bright spots in their 43-29 loss to Chandler last week that were enough to be very optimistic for the rest of the year.

The Broncos were neck and neck with Chandler for the better part of three quarters and easily could have been blown out trailing by 15 at halftime and without momentum at intermission. But five sophomore starters are beginning to feel their oats.

Among those sophomore starters are quarterback Tyler Bruggman and wide out Devon Allen, who are going to be solid pitch-and-catch partners through the fall of 2012. Linebacker Robert Relf is shining on defense. Junior receiver Fred Gammage and senior running back Josh Dennard  give the Broncos plenty of weapons.

If the Broncos maintain the improvement they showed in the running game against Chandler, they will be dangerous the final five games of the season. And losing to St. Mary's (a rivalry game that can be unpredictable every year), Centennial and Chandler is nothing to hibernate over. It woundn't be surprising to see the Broncos finish the regular season at 6-4 and be a handful for anyone they face in the playoffs.
