The Arizona Diamondacks Foundation has postponed the 2020 D-backs Inter-Tribal Youth Baseball and Softball Tournaments and the 2020 Native American Recognition Day (NARD) events.

D-BACKS HISTORY

In 1995, the Arizona Diamondbacks was awarded a Major League Baseball franchise to begin play for the 1998 season. The D-backs played the Colorado Rockies on March 31, 1998 at Bank One Ballpark (renamed Chase Field 2005).

During its fourth year in Major League Baseball, the D-backs beat the New York Yankees for the 2001 World Series.

The first D-backs Inter-Tribal Youth Baseball Tournament began in 1998. The softball tournament began later.

The D-backs hosted the first Native American Recognition Day for 21 tribes in Arizona in 1998.

D-BACKS INTER-TRIBAL YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL TOURNAMENTS

D-backs organization official, Bret Scroggins, Coordinator, Community Outreach & Youth Sports Program released a statement.

"Out of abundance of caution with the COVID-19 situation, our organization has decided to postpone the 2020 D-backs Inter-Tribal Youth Baseball and Softball Tournaments. We're currently working on date options, however, we're still working on more information regarding the coronavirus before we set new dates. As soon as we have a new date and additional details, we'll communicate them via our website," Scroggins said.

D-BACKS NATIVE AMERICAN RECOGNITION DAY

Noel Guevara, D-backs organizarion official, is manager, special events and community programs.

Guevara released a statement in behalf of the organization.

"Without yet knowing the plan for an Major League Baseball season, everything (Native American Recognition Day) is postponed until a later to be determined date. We will send out more information when we know more. Thank you for your understanding. Stay safe," said Guevara said.
