Hamilton stayed committed and undefeated Tuesday.
The Huskies defeated rivals Chandler 3-1 in the Battle of AZ Ave thanks to goals by Luke Schaefer, Gilberto Ortega and Pedro Landeros.
This win was their sixth in their last seven and keeps them undefeated with a record of 9-0-2.
“Their ability to buy in and support what I call a championship culture that is really focused on relationships is what’s driven these sorts of results,” said coach Lance Thompson.
“They are a committed and unified group and they have been doing everything they have been asked to do which is why we are where we are.”
Schaefer, who is the Huskies leading scorer this season with 12 goals, knows the importance of this win for his team.
“This game is a pretty important one. This is a game we mark at the beginning of the season and it was great beating our rivals in such a competitive game” said Schaefer.
Rivalry games are always competitive and heated.
“It is always important to keep our composure,” said team captain Adnan Laurousi. “If a foul is committed, we need to keep quiet and lead by example.”
One player who stayed very composed all match was senior goalkeeper and captain Tracey Angeli, who had several key saves for the Huskies.
“For me it is very important to keep the team motivated because even when we are just starting the game and if we start off slow as we did today, it’s important to get the guys going in order for us to score goals and get those important tackles,” said Angeli.
The Huskies led 3-0 going into the second half.
The No.3 Huskies face their toughest test yet Friday against top-seeded Brophy at home in the final game of the regular season.
