American Leadership Academy-Queen Creek utilized its size inside the paint to post a 43-41 victory over the Winslow Bulldogs in a freedom game played at Don Petranovich Gymnasium in Winslow.

ALA-Queen Creek's 6-foot-8 Dyson Lighthall scored 16 points and 6-foot-7 teammate Devon Brooke added 12 points in a winning cause.

Winslow took an 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. ALA-Queen Creek outscored Winslow, 16-14, in the second quarter, but Winslow continued to lead at halftimes, 25-24.

Winslow led by one point, 38-37, at the end of the third quarter, as both teams scored 13 points apiece. ALA-Queen Creek tallied six points to Winslow's three points during the fourth period.

Winslow head coach Scott Corum said ALA-Queen Creek's size gave the Bulldogs problems throughout the game.

Corum said when ALA-Queen Creek got the ball inside to Lighthall and Brooke, it was difficult for the Bulldogs to contain the two.

"When we weren't causing turnovers, it made it difficult for us to speed up the game and score points," Corum said. "They set the pace of the game. We weren't able to play our style, which is fast paced and high scoring."

Corum said the Bulldogs had a chance to win the game.

"It didn't help when we lost Zach Wagner with about four minutes remaining in the game with leg cramps in both legs," Corum said.

Tyrell Young and Zach Wagner both scored 13 points apiece to lead Winslow.
