Recap - Chandler @ Westivew
November 7, 2011 by Game Previews, AZPreps365
It was a climatic ending at Westview High School as the Chandler Wolves executed on their second overtime possession from quarterback Darrell Garrettson to tight-end Patrick Baldenegro to win 35-34.
The first half both teams traded scores and both failed on 1-of-2 PAT's - as they kicked into the wind. Chandler led at the half 13-12.
The Wolves increased their lead in the third quarter when Garrettson connected with Paul Perkins for his second touchdown of the night - leading 20-12. With heavy winds and rain throughout the majority of the game, the first pass-completion of the game did not occur until the third quarter for either team.
Westview faked the punt on 4th and 13 and Jacob Szostek connected with Chuks Amaechi for a touchdown, to tie the game at 20. The Knights came up with a big defensive stop, but fumbled, giving the ball back to the Wolves, but Westview's defense made a huge play and regained possession with less than five minutes remaining on the game clock - but were unable to produce points.
Heading into overtime Chandler started on offense and Garrettson ran the ball up the middle for a score. The Knights also scored on a keeper by Blake Hahn, but elected to go for the 2-point conversion and succeeded - but a holding call forced them to settle for a PAT off the right-hash, tying the game at 27.
The Knights defense was unable to stop the Wolves on their next possession as Garrettson connected with Baldenegro in the end zone, eliminating themselves from the playoffs, as Chandler beat the Knights 35-34.
