The future is bright for Barry Goldwater football after ending their 2019 season with a 6-4 record as star running back Earnest Greenwood will be retdurning for one more season.

Greenwood, who is only 5-foot-6, rushed for 1,761 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns this season.

Greenwood has been playing varsity football since his sophmore year when he rushed for 646 yards and five touchdowns.

“We are aware of Earnest’s capabilities and we know this offense will be carried by him next year,”  Athletic Director Mark Gorman said.

Heading into next season, Greenwood will be looking to take a leadership role.

“This offseason my biggest test will be to get the younger guys to step up to the plate,” he said.

The other big question heading into next season will be how Coach Frank Lautt will add a passing game around Greenwood. The Bulldogs only passed for 418 yards.

Lautt has been known for starting skill players at quarterback and having them execute the run option.

"My plan is to run the offense around Greenwood and put him in a position to succeed as he will be one of my leaders next year,” Lautt said.  He envisions his program continuing to be the unorthodox program that it has been known to be.

“This offseason I will continue to focus on getting faster and stronger,”  Greenwood said.

Greenwood participates on the track team already. He has run the 100-meters in 11.63 seconds.
