Football: Page, St. Johns, Winslow chalk up victories

Page, St. Johns and Winslow chalked up gridiron victories in high school action.
PAGE 34, WINDOW ROCK 28
Page senior running back Gabe Gomez scored four touchdowns to help lead the Sand Devils to a 34-28 victory over Window Rock in a 3A North Region contest.
Gomez rushed for a 57 yard touchdown with 6:02 remaining in the first quarter. The Sand Devils down, 20-14, tied the game at 20-20 when Gomez hauled in an 18 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Robert Smith with 3:35 left in the second quarter.
Gomez scored the game's final two touchdowns of the game in the second half.
Gomez intercepted a pass and raced 80 yards for a touchdown with 6:51 remaining in the third quarter. Gomez scored the two-point PAT, tying the game at 28-28.

In the second quarter, Page quarterback Smith threw a touchdown pass.
Window Rock scored the game's first touchdown. Scouts signal-caller Joey Begay threw an 11 yard touchdown pass to Adrian Destea with 6:21 in the first quarter.
With 8:55 remaining in the first quarter, Begay rushed for a touchdown. The PAT failed. Page held a 14-12 lead.
Scouts' receiver Destea caught his second touchdown of the game. Begay connected with Destea with a 16 yard touchdown pass. The Scouts took the lead, 20-14, on the two-point PAT with 4:55 left in the second quarter.
With 14 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Window Rock's Naataah Chief scampered into the end zone on a short run. The Scouts completed the two-point PAT for a 28-20 halftime lead.
Window Rock head coach Wilbur Begay said the Scouts committed costly errors.
"We didn't take care of the ball," Begay said. "We had opportunities to win the game. Penalties and turnovers hurt us. We drove down the field and we didn't score. We have to do a better job."
Window Rock dropped to 0-2 in region competition and are 3-4 overall. The Scouts host the Chinle Wildcats, 0-2 region, 2-5 overall, this Friday for Homecoming in Fort Defiance.
Page improved to 2-0 in region and 2-5 overall.
ST. JOHNS 28, PIMA 0
St. Johns posted a 28-0 shutout over the Pima Roughriders in a 2A Black Region ball game.
St. Johns quarterback Ramon Sanchez scored on a 4 yard run in the first quartr. Gage Trickey tacked on a PAT for a 7-0 lead.
St. Johns added its second touchdown of the game in the first stanza. Ira Tullous scampered 7 yards for a touchdown. Trickey booted the football between the uprights for a 14-0 lead.
Sanchez threw a 30 yard scoring strike to Graham Nielsen. Tricky tacked on the PAT for a 21-0 advantage in the second quarter.
St. Johns' Mark Ballejos entered the end zone on a 5 yard touchdown run. Trickey's PAT was good.
St. Johns head coach Mike Morgan said he was proud of his team.
"It was a good effort," Morgan said. "The offensive line did a good job blocking. The defense stopped Pima's run and did well."
WINSLOW 49, HOLBROOK 8
The Winslow Bulldogs netted 381 total offensive yardage, enroute to a 49-8 win over arch-rival Holbrook Roadrunners in a 3A East Region ball game.
Winslow had 220 yards on the ground and added 161 yards through the air for the night.
Winslow's Mason Scott rushed for 126 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns on the night.
Aiden Kislingbury and Eli Keams both scored a touchdown for the Bulldogs. Kinslingbury had three rushes for 27 yards. Keams had one carry for 3 hards. Robert Wilbanks had 8 carries for 51 yards.
Wilbanks hauled in one pass for 60 yards and a touchdown. Childers caught one pass for 36 yards and a touchdown. Gabe Meunier caught a pair of passes for 39 yards.
Winslow placekicker Trevor Carasos completed seven PAT's for the game. Cylis Gonzales scored six points for the Bulldogs.
Winslow improved to 2-1 in region play and 7-1 overall.
Holbrook dropped to 0-2 in region and 0-7 overall.
