Northern schools jockey for football state tournament top 16 ranking position

With one month remaining in the regular season, northern schools are jockeying for state football tournament top 16 ranking position.

The top 16 ranked schools for each classification are invited to the state football tournament. The single elimination state football tournament begins on November 8 at the site of the high seed. First round winners advance to the state tournament quarterfinals on November 15 at the high seed.

The state football tournament continues with the semifinals on November 23 at a site to be determined. The state championship for 3A is scheduled for Campo Verde High School on November 29. The 2A state finals is set for November 29 at Williams Field High School.

There will be plenty of movement in the statewide power rankings prior to the state football tournament pairings are announced.

In the latest 3A statewide power rankings, released on Tuesday, the Ganado Hornets, (3-2), of the North Region, are ranked No. 18.

Kayenta Monument Valley Mustangs, (2-3), holds down No. 24 in the statewide power rankings.

The Chinle Wildcats, (2-4), sits at No. 32 in the statewide power rankings.

The remaining North Region schools are No. 33 Page Sand Devils, (1-5), No. 34 Window Rock Scouts, (3-3), and No. 36 Tuba City Warriors, (1-5).

Two area schools, Winslow Bulldogs, (6-1), are No. 13, and Holbrook Roadrunners, (0-6), are No. 40.

The Alchesay Falcons, (4-2), of the 2A Little Colorado Region, are ranked No. 17.

The Red Mesa Redskins, (5-1), follows in No. 18 statewide power rankings.

Holding down No. 29 in the statewide power rankings are the Hopi Bruins, (3-3). The Valley Sanders Pirates, (1-3), are ranked No. 32.

The Many Farms Lobos, (1-4), are ranked No. 34, while the Pinon Eagles, (1-4), are No. 35 in the statewide power rankings.

The Rock Point Cougars, (1-5), are holding down No. 38 and the Greyhills Academy Knights, (0-5), are No. 40 in the statewide power rankings.

The St. Johns Redskins, (4-2), are ranked No. 13 in the latest statewide power rankings.
