Gilbert Christian falls to River Valley

Gilbert Christian (3-2) fell to River Valley (3-1) last Friday by a final score of 28-9. The win gave River Valley their third win of the season and their second consecutive win over Gilbert Christian. The Knights meanwhile lose for the second time this season having their win streak snapped at three games.
Gilbert Christian and River Valley battled in a tight defensive game for three quarters on Friday. River Valley would strike first when senior running back Issac Miller (36) scored. On the next River Valley possession, a poor snap on a punt led to a safety putting Gilbert Christian on the board. Good field position lead to the Knights only touchdown of the night as Weston Zierer (1) scored giving GCHS a 9-7 lead they would take to the half. The third quarter was scoreless until with under a minute left River Valley returned a Gilbert Christian punt to retake the lead 14-9. Late in the fourth quarter, River Valley intercepted a GCHS pass and returned it for a touchdown extending the lead to 21-9. On the ensuing kickoff, GCHS fumbled setting up River Valley’s final score of the night making it 28-9.

River Valley will look to build on the momentum from last week's win as they travel to play Yuma Catholic (2-2). Gilbert Christian will also head on the road and look to get back on track against American Leadership Academy Ironwood (0-5). ALA-Ironwood is coming off a 46-33 loss to Kingman, the game saw ALA-Ironwood score more points (33) than they had in their previous four games combined (20). ALA-Ironwood will host Gilbert Christian Friday, September 27th at 7:00 pm in Queen Creek, AZ.
