Cross Country: Area schools compete for supremacy at a pair of invites

Area schools competed for supremacy at a pair of cross country invites this past weekend.

FOUR CORNERS CROSS COUNTRY INVITE

Flagstaff Eagles turned in a strong performance en route to earning championship honors in the girl's and boy's varsity divisions at the Four Corners Cross Country Invite at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff.

Flagstaff runners garnered the top four positions and its fifth scoring runner finished ninth place, as the Eagles finished with 19 points to easily capture the girl's championship. Ganado claimed runner-up, finishing a distant second place with 50 points.

Flagstaff senior Hana Hall garnered the individual girls' title, posting an 18:15 over a 3-mile course. Flagstaff freshman Mia Hall followed in second place, negotiating the terrain in 18:30. Eagles' senior Anna Harmon was clocked in 19:13 for third place. Junior Allie Thurgood turned in a 19:22 for fourth place. Flagstaff freshman Brooke Golightly rounded out the scoring runners in 9th place with a 20:23 showing.

Ganado freshman Marissa Shorty copped fifth place, posting a 20:01. Ganado sophomore Whitney James crossed the finish line in 8th place, negotiating the course in 20:20. Lady Hornets senior Jayla McIntosh was timed in 20:55 for 11th place.

Freshman Lasundrai Baldwin was Ganado's fourth runner, crossing the finish line in 12th place, with a 20:55 time. Ganado sophomore Marissa Smith completed the race in 21st place, with a 21:48 showing.

Mingus freshman was 6th place, posting a 20:04. Holbrook sophomore Abigayle Nez followed in 7th place, clocking a 20:19. Page freshman Lashawnda Yazzie completed the race with a 20:38, settling for 10th place.

Mingus finished third place with 90 points, followed by Arbor View (121), Northland Prep (140), Holbrook (242), Tolleson Union (250), Lee Williams (251), Moapa Valley (273), and Dysart (275) rounded out the top 10 scoring schools.

Flagstaff dominated the boy's varsity division, posting 24 points for top honors. Ganado garnered second place with 72 points.

Page junior Rex Martin was the boy's varsity individual champion. Martin completed the 3-mile course in 16:05.

Flagstaff runners claimed second, third and fourth place. Junior Max Davis (2nd, 16:14), senior Gabrial Harju (3rd, 16:16), and senior Riley Human (4th, 16:17) followed.

Flagstaff sophomore Lance Harris (7th, 16:34) ane sophomore Ryan Hatch (8th, 16:38) rounded out the individual scoring for the Eagles.

Ganado freshman Micah Slivers garnered 5th place, negotiating thr course in 16:29. Arbor View senior Mario Gutierrez finished 6th place with a 16:33 showing. Rio Rico junior Roshan Tinoco-Miranda was clocked in 16:43 for 9th place. Northland Prep sophomore rounded out the top 10 finishers with a 16:58 time.

Arbor View finished third in the boy's team scoring with 132 points. The remaining boy's team scores were as follows, Page (4th, 154), Hopi (5th, 178), Northland Prep (6th, 184), Gallup, New Mexico (7th, 237), Chino Valley (8th, 241), Dysart (9th, 296), and Mingus (10th, 315).

SHIPROCK CHIEFTAIN CROSS COUNTRY iNVITE

Piedra Vista, of Farmington, New Mexico, dominated the top three positions in the varsity boy's race to outpoint host Shiprock for the team title.

Piedra Vista garnered the boy's championship with 68 points. Shiprock followed in second place with 74 points. Kayenta Monument Valley, Arizona claimed third place with 86 points in the 9-team field.

Piedra Vista senior Triston Charles was the individual boy's champion, posting a 16:17 over the 3-mile course. Teammates senior Ethan Lacey (2nd, 17:03) and junior Makua Harvey (3rd, 17:07) followed.

Kayenta Monument Valley senior William Wayne (4th, 17:19) and Mustangs' sophomore Cayden Smith (6th, 17:36) led their team.

Chinle, Arizona junior Ashriel Pouncy claimed 8th place with a 17:54 showing. Window Rock, Arizona junior Caleb Holiday rounded out the top 10 finishers with a 17:57 time. Demitrrius Young, a Shiprock junior, settled for 5th place with a 17:31 showing. Bloomfield junior Jacob Benedict  finished 7th place with a 17:37 time. Kirtland Central sophomore copped 9th place, touring the course in 17:55.

Kirtland Central finished 4th place with 90 points. Other team scores were Navajo Prep (5th, 128), Chinle (6th, 129), Bloomfield (7th, 147), Window Rock (8th, 191), and Farmington (9th, 201).

In the girl's varsity division, Kirtland Central won the team title with 54 points. Chinle followed with 56 points.

Shiprock freshman Kaydence Platero was the girl's varsity individual champion. Platero negotiated the 3-mile course in 19:45. Teammate Elena Hardy claimed 8th place with a 21:11 showing.

Kirtland Central's Aisha Ramone settled for second place with a 20:06 time. Her teammate Autumn Harrison finished 5th place, turning in a 20:46.

Farmington's Kamalani Anitielu was third place, posting a 20:13. Chinle's Temrya Bia crossed the finish line in 4th place, with a 20:31. Her Chinle teammates, Nevaeh Scott finished 6th place, clocking a 20:53 and Mariah Bahe followed in 7th place with a 21:10. Chinle's Taylor Bia (19th, 22:51), and Ashlyn Lynch (20th, 23:01) rounded the top five Lady Wildcat runners.

Kayenta Monument Valley garnered 9th place, being timed in 21:12. Rounding out the top 10 was Piedra Vista's Shyla Rogers with a 21:34.

Team scores were as follows, Shiprock (3rd, 60), Farmington (4th, 104), Window Rock (5th, 126), Navajo Prep (6th, 152), Kayenta Monument Valley (7th, 157), and Piedra Vista (8th, 160).
