Region play kicks in this week for more regions with a handful having commenced last week in larger populated regions. There's a number of tasty matchups as September comes to a close.

6A Central Region play finds Highland (4-1) at Desert Vista (3-1), which along with being the top two region-title contenders likely is an elimination game from Open Division consideration.

Over in the 5A San Tan Region, each team has a record no worse than 3-2. Top dog at this point is unbeaten Campo Verde (5-0), which hosts Gilbert (3-2). Williams Field (3-2) visits Casteel (4-1) WF has won three straight and Casteel four in a row. Higley (3-2) is at home against Maricopa (3-2) with the Knights riding a three-game win streak. The ship has sailed for Open Division consideration for all but Campo Verde and Casteel. In this competitive region it seems hard to imagine anyone going 5-0 in region play. If are left for the 5A Conference playoffs, that's still a very good thing.

Over in 3A Valley Christian (4-0) tries to slay Northwest Christian (3-1) in a non-region tilt of top teams in the conference. VC suffered two of its four losses to conference champ NWC last season. VC has already avenged two of those losses this year. Benjamin Franklin (5-0) hosts Sabino (3-1), which dealt Ben Franklina loss last year. Sabino advanced to the semis last year, but Ben Franklin looks to be the saltier squad thus far.
