“We call her the destroyer,” said teammate Justine Money.
Meet Hannah Drewitz, who has been playing volleyball since she was around 11 years old. “I use it as an outlet to release all my stress,” said Drewitz.
Drewitz, a junior, is one of Phoenix Country Day School’s key players as an outside hitter.
“She has college potential,” said Athletic Director Shane Lewis.
Drewtiz aspires to play at a college in California or somewhere on the west coast.
The Eagles (4-1) lost their first game of the season against the Parker Broncs on Saturday. “It was really frustrating,” said Drewitz.
The Eagles were up two sets to none. “The first two sets went really well, but by the third set we got in our heads that this was going to be an easy game.”
Drewitz has a new attitude for this season. “Last year I would get in my head and get frustrated but this year I’ve been working really hard on being positive.”
“She is a really consistent player this year and has a really positive attitude,” said Money.
Drewitz’ outlook on the season? “We thought in the beginning of the year that this was going to be difficult because we lost a few important seniors, but I think we might be even better than we were last year.”
The Eagles were 14-3 and made the playoffs last season. They face Horizon Honors Tuesday in Phoenix.
