Gilbert Christian broke the school record for rushing yards with 601 yards on Friday night. The Offensive Line consisting of seniors Nestor Pancardo(75), Joe Dickerson(63), Connor Swingle(52), and Tate Whitlow(55), along with junior center Luke Webb(56) opened holes for Senior Wing Back Weston Zierer(1) to rush for career highs 314 yards and 4 touchdowns. Sophomore Wingback Matt Hershey added 81 rushing yards and a touchdown. Gilbert Christian and Quarterback Tyson Heyn (10) did not attempt a pass for the second consecutive game as Coach Danny Norris’ double-wing offense showed the 3A conference just how explosive it can be. Senior Captain Jacob Jones (82) added a pick-six as the Knights defense forced 3 turnovers.
Weston Zierer (1) breaks free for a huge gain.
Gilbert Christian (1-1) will head into their Week 2 home game against San Tan Foothills (0-2) with a rushing attack ranked 21st in the nation. Paradise Honors will seek their first win at home against Coolidge (2-0).
