Poston Butte's Lindsay Lopez and Cactus' Alynah Torres will be teammates for Arizona State's softball team this fall. They got a jump on that relationship on Wednesday night combining to lead the 4A-5A South to an 11-2 victory over the North in the first of two Arizona Softball Coaches Association Senior all-star game hosted by Scottsdale Community College.

Lopez, who edged out Torres for most valuable player honors, did her damage in the circle. Lopez started and pitched the first three innings then returned to finish out the contest hurling the seventh. The left-hander's four innings of work resulted in four hits allowed, an unearned run, no walks and nine strikeouts. She fanned the side twice - in the second and seventh.

Torres, a standout shortstop for four seasons for Cactus,  led the South offensively. She was 3 for 4 at the plate, scored twice and knocked in three runs. Torres' RBI single in the first inning touched off a three-run outburst that was followed by RBI from Mesquite's Lala Sotelo and Poston Butte's Raevynn Apodaca. Torres added a two-run single in the second to boost the lead to 5-0.

The South led 6-2 heading to the last of the sixth and broke it open scoring five runs on four hits. Cactus outfielder Carson Gambs began the rally with an opposite-field home run to right field. Williams Field pitcher Tava Boone, who pitched three innings allowing one run between Lopez's stints, checked in with two hits and two RBI, the second RBI capping the sixth-inning outburst.

Coconino's Taylor Brown and Cactus Shadows Kaylee Moore each had two hits for the North. Taylor's hits were a double and home run, the latter coming off Boone for the North's final run in the fourth inning.

6A GAME

6A Red 11, 6A Blue 4: Michelle Anderson reprised her role as Red Mountain's leadoff hitter doing that for the 6A Red team in its conquest of the Blue in the second all-star game of the evening put on by the AZSCA at Scottsdale Community College.

Anderson finished 3 for 3 at the plate and had hits in each of the three innings the Red scored. She was voted the game's most valuable player for her efforts. Anderson beat out an infield hit in the first, stole second and came around to score when the throw attempting to nab her stealing sailed in to centerfield. Anderson doubled in an eight-run, fourth inning that snapped a 1-1 tie and put the Red on the way to victory. Her last hit - another infield hit - drove in the last of the team's 11 runs in the fifth inning.

The Red team's eight-run fourth got started with a one-out double by Mesa Mountain View's Kenzie Fox and Westwood's Marissa Scala's RBI single. Desert Ridge's Shaylee Ackerman, who pitched for the first time in nearly two years recovering from Tommy John surgery, threw two scoreless innings ito open the game. Ackerman added a two-run single and the inning's big blow came a batter later with a three-run homer to centerfield by Red Mountain's Kayden Bullock.

Basha's Ashley Portugal and Rylee Lord added two hits apiece in three at-bats in the Red team's 12-hit attack. The Blue team had two hitters crank out two hits. Highland's Kilee Fehd doubled in a run in the fourth and homered to lead off the seventh for the game's final run. Perry's Chloe Krason was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles. Perry pitcher Saige Stutz allowed two hits and an unearned run in three innings of work for the Blue team and was 1 for 2 at the plate.
