Softball: Window Rock Lady Scouts nab Kingman tournament championship

Led by freshman Alexis Tsosie-Hood and junior Rachael Smiley's pitching and batting, the Window Rock Lady Scouts chalked up an impressive undefeated 6-0 record, enroute to earning the Kingman softball tournament championship.

Tsosie-Hood belted four home runs during the tournament. Tsosie-Hood chalked up four wins in the pitching circle.

Smiley nailed down two wins in the pitching circle. Smiley was Window Rock's top batter in two of the six games.

Window Rock is 8-2 overall. The Lady Scouts host the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners today (Tuesday). Window Rock faces the Gallup (New Mexico) Lady Bengals on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in an interstate game.

Window Rock 10, Lee Williams 5

Window Rock starting righthanded pitcher Smiley threw 3  2/3-innings. She allowed eight hits and struckout six batters. Tsosie-Hood was summoned in relief. She threw 1  1/3 innings. She did not allow any hits and fanned three batters.

Tsosie-Hood had two hits, including  home run. She had 2 RBI.

"(Our) bats finally came alive during the fifth inning," said Window Rock head coach Cynthia Smiley.

Window Rock 20, Laughlin, Nevada 0

Lady Scouts righthanded hurler Tsosie-Hood threw three strong innings, allowing two hits and fanning eight batters.

Tsosie-Hood and Halaya Shirley both had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate. Tsosie-Hood cracked a home run, a triple,, a double and single. Shirley hit a pair of two-baggers and two singles for the game.

Window Rock 8, Lake Havasu 6

Window Rock head coach Cynthia Smiley said the Lady Scouts' defense and offense came together to pull out the win.

Tsosie-Hood's pitching and batting were the key's to Window Rock's victory.

Tsosie-Hood threw five innings, allowing nine hits and striking out eight batters in the pitching circle. At the plate, Tsosie-Hood had two hits, including a home run and a double.

Window Rock 12, Parker 0

Window Rock pitcher Rachael Smiley threw a 12-0 no-hit shutout over Parker. She fanned five batters.

Smiley was a perfect three-for-three at the plate, including one double. Tsosie-Hood had three hits at three plate appearances.

Window Rock 6, Kingman Academy 5

Smiley threw five innings for the win in the pitching circle. She allowed six hits and struckout 11 batters. Smiley had a triple, driving in one run. Tsosie-Hood had one hit and one RBI.

Window Rock 9, Lake Havasu 8

Tsosie-Hood pitched and batted Window Rock to the tournament championship over Lake Havasu. The victory was Window Rock's second victory over Lake Havasu in the tournament.

Lady Scouts head coach Cynthia Smiley said team work was the key to the win.

Tsosie-Hood threw five innings for the win. She gave up 14 hits and struckout six batters. She was a perfect three-for-threw at the plate. She hit a home run, cracked a single and a double. Halaya Shirley recorded two hits at three plate appearances. She hit a pair of two-baggerd, driving in two runs.
