Horizon bounced back from a tough loss to Notre Dame Prep, beating Cactus Shadows 34-21 for its first region win of the season. With Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham and offensive line coach Saga Tuitele watching, the Huskies scored all five touchdowns on the ground, including two from running back Dylan Brush, and forced two late interceptions to put the game away. Special teams errors kept it from being a clean win, but the Huskies are looking to build on the victory as they head to Highland on Oct. 16.
The Husky Gridiron Booster Club, led by president Quinn Tompkins, is the volunteer crew that keeps Horizon football running. They’re repainting Husky paws and hanging senior banners on a 120-degree August Saturday, then back at it on game days to run the snack bar and set up the press box. This summer, they raised money to build a new team room that fits more than 100 players, and they’re eyeing bleacher, press box and scoreboard upgrades next. As head coach Tyson Ditmore put it, “They’re a part of the team.”
